Officer Logs, Ariolo Embassy: 57551

Norvo's personal log, stardate 57551.5. I've received what may be a temporary reassignment to the Federation Embassy on the Ariolo homeworld. Long term temporary, I was ordered to resettle my living quarters from the Xir'Tan to here. I spoke with Captain Yiirel before I departed, and she says that she heard I was specifically asked for based on my research into Ariolo culture I did at the Academy. She didn't go into detail, but said my being able to speak the Ariolo language without use of the Universal Translator was seen as quite valuable.

I am aboard the runabout Emrin with about a dozen other officers being transferred to local Starfleet installations. I am the only one being assigned to the Federation Embassy though. A Tellarite I spoke with was transferred from Utopia Planitia to their shipyards, and was strongly complaining about how inferior they are - he saw it as a punishment of some type. An Arbazan nurse named Pelisiya was being reassigned to a Starfleet outpost on the surface. A Zaranite, and a Zakdorn were both being transferred to the planetary defensive grid outpost. The pilot, which is from the local Starbase, said this is the largest transfer to the planet she's ever seen.

I can't help but fantasize about what adventure this could be. Maybe we all know some Ariolo that's vital to Federation interests? Maybe our homeworlds have some dispute with the Ariolo? Time will tell, I'll be unpacking in my new living arrangement shortly then mission briefing at 1500.

Library Database: Ka'laat undefi Moorb

Ka'laat undefi Moorb - a Tiburonian holiday celebrating consciousness, "being awake" or the waking world (as opposed to the dream world.) It's celebration goes back millennia to the first recorded city-states, when ceremonial dancers would sing and dance around a fire for 31 straight hours while the towns children drank a syrupy, sugary drink made from the malted sap of the Moorb tree.

In modern times, it is celebrated across Tiburon by the over indulgence in a similar Moorb soda-pop, staying awake for 31 hours straight, and a dance in a communal space. Businesses are typically open for 31 hours straight as well during the day, though alcoholic drinking is discouraged.

The timing of the holiday is on the Summer solsctice - or the longest day of the year, for the City of Kohrmut'to (a major empirical capital in ancient times.) The day offering the most sunlight is considered the day when Tiburonians should be awake the most, likewise, on the shortest day of the year is a celebration of the dream world.

Culturally, in certain religions it is said that with prayer - family in comas, or suffering from an energy draining illness will get better either for this day alone - or they will be healed completely on this day.

Linguistic Database: Maroa

Rigelian maroa
Norvo's personal log, supplemental. Just for fun, my Academy linguistics professor once taught us to appreciate how vast the Universe is by asking the computer the meaning of a word in every linguistic databases in the Sol Sector alone. Well, we encountered the starship Maroa a few months ago, and I remember being interested in the fact that it was named after a Deltan ocean -- what with most of Starfleet's ships named after Human things. So I thought I'd ask the computer for all the meanings of the word "Maroa"....

  • Maroa, a style of blown-glass art on Rigel VII
  • Maroa, the Goddess of Medicine in ancient Saurian culture
  • Maroa, a style of motor-vehicle on the Talarian homeworld
  • Maroa son of Dk'Tar, Noted 17th Century Klingon Warrior
  • Maroa, 19th century Queen on Catulla
  • Maroa, a type of serpent native to Kanda IV
  • Maroa, an exotic dance on Bolarus IX
  • Maroa Thennva, a 20th century Betazoid politician
  • Maroa, beverage on Halii
  • Z.L. Maroa, early Tiburonian spacecraft
  • Maroa Tigan, 23rd century Zaldan military General
  • Maroa Typez, 23rd Century Trill singer

Now just geographic terms...

Maroa River, P'Jem
Now just bodies of water...
So in conclusion, every word has many many meanings in different cultures. So for the last time, please, please, will everyone stop asking if I am named after the Pico system! It's an ancient Trill name, okay? We come from the Ganses peninsula. The name is quite common there actually. End log.
